DESOTO'S TIME LINE

Mark the Date:  April 8, 2014

In 1868 throughout DeSoto Parish, churches and plantation bells were rung at 3:00 p.m. on April 8 to honor the valiant women who cared for the wounded soldiers in the Civil War/Battle of Mansfield.  These caring ladies tended both Confederate and Federal troops who were injured in the battle.

For a number of years the practice continued,   but eventually stopped.

The DeSoto Parish Historical Society is resuming this very meaningful practice this year and asks that all homes, plantations, public and private buildings, schools and churches ring their bells at 3:00 p.m. on April 8…the specific date and time that the Battle of Mansfield was at its most fierce hour.

Thank you for focusing on a part of this meaningful  era  in DeSoto’s History and being a part of ongoing history by participating in this event.

THE OUTLAWS RIDE AGAIN

Clista A. Calhoun Center - Mansfield

An Event Sponsored by

BackAlley Theatre

The outlaw performers who changed country music forever are bringing their legend back

to life at 7p.m, April 19th, at the Clista A. Calhoun Center

Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson brought joy and truth to audiences worldwide. This collaboration will be recreated when internationally acclaimed musicians and tribute artists Coley Chaudoin and Marion Deaton take the stage.

Coley Chaudoin has been a respected guitarist, songwriter and vocalist for over 30 years, adding tribute artist to his list of accomplishments. When Coley takes the stage you know Waylon is in the house.

Marion Deaton appears with Coley as Willie Nelson.  This will be Marion’s last USA appearance before his 2014 “Smooth Willie” Australia/New Zealand Tour.

Both performers look and sound ‘dead on’ like Waylon and Willie.

This show celebrates the music of Waylon and Willie and has audiences on their feet asking for more.
